Having a car that isn’t too fast. In the last few weeks I have had a few close calls with being caught for speeding. Both times I was having too much fun trying to keep up with cars who have much more power than I.
The first time was with a Raptor going allegedly 95 in and out of traffic. And the other was with a Camaro and a 335i in and out of traffic allegedly at 85-90.
So, I am trying to calm my driving down now by going to the mountains and driving up there instead. But everytime I see a wrx, I think about how much trouble I could be in if I had gotten that instead.
Does anyone else feel or have felt this way before??

hehe. I routinely catch myself 15 over on the motorcycle.
oops

Yes, all the time, and that is specially dangerous here thanks to the new 35mph limit in the entire city and all the new speed cameras.

Isn’t 80 mph the minimum you should be going to keep up with traffic? I live in Bay area and no one drives at less than 75 mph. I like to go a bit faster so I cruise at around 85 and pass at 90 mph on hwy. Nice Mazda6.

I hit 145 racing an M6 last week..

I have sufficient power to do whatever I want most of the time, and it is intoxicating.
On the one hand, if I had more power I’d probably get myself arrested.
On the other, “blew that guy’s doors off—worth it!!”
It is sort of scary when you aren’t in a hurry and you realize the speed the vehicle feels comfortable cruising at is well over the limit though.

I had to give myself a reminder after get back-2-back tickets for the same thing.

Exactly! My car feels comfortable above the speed limit. Plus it feels so good to get through a slow pack and find yourself driving on an emptier stretch of freeway until you catch up to another pack.

I have a car with more power than I can ever use, and most of the time I’m doing my best to drive it conservatively. I’ve been pulled over a few times for speeding and I’m barely on the throttle (talked my way out of all of them).

I’m so scared of getting a ticket that when I drive i’m constantly scanning ahead for cops or try to predict where they might hide and I do this as a passenger also.
Haha I love that photo!

Thanks! Unfortunately, 80 isn’t all that normal on my commute. I can pass people going 70-75 majority of the time. Plus most of my speeding is in a “construction zone” where it is 15-20 miles long with only 2 spots that are actually being worked on and they are behind a concrete barrier.

Hah you say that, I’ve had more close calls in a speed limited van (68mph) than any other vehicle. The fact it’s underpowered makes it even more tempting to keep the right hand pedal down.

I tend to have to catch myself everytime I change lanes because I have a tendency to speed faster everytime. In which going in and out of traffic only makes me speed up. I wish I could ride a motorcycle, my commute would be so much faster.

Wow! That’s must’ve been awesome. I wish I had the guts to speed more but of course only on an empty road. The fastest I’ve ever gone is like 95 because I would like to think that I have morals to not speed over 100. But one day....

Aww that sucks. I'm glad where I live there aren't any speed cameras that I'm aware of.

That’s what I did with my old Camry. Me and my brother drove the crap out it and it still works fine.

Good job on avoiding tickets. I can see the positives in having an underpowered car. But it does seem nice for the once in a blue moon chance to get to use the power and not have it fail you. But man would it be dangerous!

Yeah my driving records not too good... Also I live in L.A. So it's pretty common here

I just went from this:
(It was modified and pushing about 340hp)
To this:
I’m trying to become a more-relaxed driver. Not until this week I’ve had a time, where I was tying to go faster, only to find that my foot is pedal the floor.

I live in LA too and my commute on the 210 is so tempting.

Well the change helps a little bit. I remember the first time driving the Camry again after getting the Mazda (not quite as big of a difference as your) and just getting frustrated at it for being so freaking slow. For me I would try to tell myself than I am going to drive more fuel efficiently but that only works for a day or two before I’m fed up with the slowness of traffic. Patience is something I need when I'm driving.

Haha, I hit 145 on the 210 near Ontario on my way to pick up my new wheels in Rancho. Hit 135 on the 60 near DTLA a few years back racing a Civic Si and Integra. Nowadays I’m happy cruising at 70 unless I see another car speed by... cops can’t catch us both...

So true! I can drive along at my own pace until I get passed by one or two faster cars then I feel like I can speed up a bit more and do tend to speed up. Hoping to keep my driving record clean though... (Knocking on wood)
